NHS entitlement

Your eyesight is precious, which is why having regular eye tests is so important. The NHS provide FREE eye tests and help towards the cost of glasses for qualifying patients.

At our eye clinics, you will still receive a thorough eye test, eye health check to test for signs of eye disease and general health problems. We have all the necessary advanced equipments and have received specialist additional training.

The importance of having a regular eye test

Regular eye tests are important, which is why we recommend that you have an eye test at least every two years (every year if you are over 60 years of age) or more frequently if we have already detected an eye disease or general health problem, whether you feel you need spectacles or not.

Who qualifies for an NHS free sight test?

The Government changes the criteria frequently so ring our reception team today and find out the latest guidelines. Generally those who are:

  • Aged 60 or over
  • Under 16 or under 19 and still in full time education
  • Diagnosed as having diabetes or glaucoma
  • 40 years of age or over with a close relative with glaucoma
  • Registered blind or partially sighted
  • In need of complex lenses (you may also get an optical voucher)

Additionally you are also entitled to a free NHS sight test and help with your glasses if you (or your partner) are receiving some other types of benefits or family credits.
